Mall of America Ice Castle 2013
Now open. The Mall of America’s Ice Castle is ready for gawking.
Open daily through February 20, 2013 the Ice Castle covers nearly 2 acres of parking lot area.
At 40 feet tall the Mall of America says its their biggest ever ice castle. I believe it.
The cool part (no pun intended) is that the Castle is not carved from solid pieces of ice but “grown” by fusing icicles together. Thousands of icicles!
4 million gallons of water were used to form the icicles.
The ice castle features tunnels, walls and caverns making it a very exciting trip through what I keep thinking I saw in Narnia or maybe Superman’s Fortress of Solitude :).
LED multi-colored lights illuminate the Mall of America ice castle from within in the evenings for that other-worldly look and feel.
There are several “Throne Rooms” inside the Ice Castle, one with a chair large enough sit several people. Great for photo shoots. Seriously consider this for family pics, date night pics or next years Christmas card photo. You’d be hard pressed to find a better backdrop for some awesome photographs.
The mall is also providing an outdoor play area with snow mounds to climb and hot drinks and doughnuts.
Here are the times and prices from the Mall website:
